However, I did upgrade all the healing items because some of the larger zombies - particularly Demolishers with overgrown arms - can kill you in a heartbeat if you’re caught with them in a small arena. I didn’t buy any weapons or gear from vendors because the open world provided plenty of upgrades at a fast pace. For example, you can enhance the healing Bandage so that it restores more hit points every time you use it. There are other merchants that offer upgrades. The title is also filled with vendors from whom you can buy weapons and gear. Keep an eye on your Gear Armor score because the higher it is, the more damage you’ll be able to withstand from the restless undead and human foes. Clothing also plays a major part because it’s essentially your armor. This includes adding fire or electricity damage to any implement. You can modify weapons by picking up Scrap or Wiring. Unfortunately, this results in detachment from the plot. Maybe developer Techland did this on purpose because the player is the one making all the important decisions. Unfortunately, hundreds of zombies stand between you and those items.Īpart from that, the main character, Aiden, had a somewhat generic personality. There are even some whimsical Easter eggs like a witch ’s flying broomstick. There are a ton of secrets hidden within the cluttered buildings of Villedor, from powerful upgrades to lethal weapons. You can parkour up any ledge, jump onto any surface, and explore to your heart’s content. It’s also unique, exhilarating, and just plain fun to play, with one of the best settings in recent memory – despite the nagging feeling that the game could, and should, be more than what it is.Dying Light 2 is at its best when you’re freely traversing the substantial open-world environment. However, it’s got some blemishes, as Josh Broadwell writes: “Dying Light 2 is messy and uneven. In addition, the agents playable in chapter one are also getting some new weapons and blueprints, so it’s worth popping back and checking out their new gear too!ĭying Light 2 was quite the thriller when we reviewed it back in February, filled with interesting characters and some truly exhilarating combat.
